Charles J.A Simmons was Bertha's brother and Elizabeth "Libby" McNeill was Moreton's sister. After graduating from college, Charles went into the insurance business in Cincinnati. Charles and Libby married in 1905 and had one son in 1911, Charles McNeill Simmons. When the younger Charles was 3 years old, the family moved back to the Simmons farm in Laurel, where the elder Simmons farmed for the remainder of his life. Libby was an accomplished musician and singer and part of the "famous" McNeill quartet.
