1909 St Rt 232, New Richmond, Ohio is where the Simmons Homestead was. This was on land that was part of the original Presidential Land granted to Adam Simmons. It was a dairy farm, but ceased being a dairy in 1976. For the sake of clarity, this is not located in the city of New Richmond, Ohio. It is in Laurel, but Laurel does not have a post office, so the postal location is New Richmond. This is likely where Bertha, her sisters and brother grew up. Tax records say it was built in 1929, however I do not believe that is correct.
On the 1890 atlas of properties in Clermont County, it shows W.D. Simmons and his sister, Hannah, jointly owning this parcel. Bordering on the north is a large plot owned by his brother, Nathan Nichols Simmons. As you can see, the Simmons owned much of the land around Laurel in 1890.
Around 2015, a large tree came down on the house causing damage.
