At 2170 Laurel-Lindale Rd, New Richmond, Ohio, stands the home that Harbison McNeill built around 1860. The last time I visited Laurel was in March of 2023 and the home was still standing. The main structure is brick and consists of two levels, 3 bedrooms, one bathroom and one fireplace. Property records indicate about 2,400 sq. ft. of living space. The plot of land bordering the north side of this plot was owned by his brother Francis, and the plot bordering to the south was owned by another brother, William. After his father passed away, Moreton H. McNeill took over the farm, where he raised livestock. The property was purchased by the Smith family in 1912 (same year Dorothy was born). I am unsure as to where Moreton, Bertha and daughters lived after the sale of this land. Franklin-Laurel Rd connects this parcel with another large parcel owned by the McNeill’s in 1891. It is possible they moved to this land. It is also possible that they lived in a home on land that was historically owned by the Simmons family in Laurel.
